I’ve been using Echo Dots since 2nd Generation and they have all proven to be rugged and reliable. The 4th Gen Dot with auto dimming clock was and still is a perfect bedside or family room companion device. The 5th Gen Dot makes a good thing even better by adding improved smart home features, better speaker, and much better voice recognition.
The voice recognition on the 5th Gen Dot is unlike anything I’ve experienced with any previous Echo Dot device and is arguably the best of any Echo device I own. I have four (4) other Echo devices (3x Echo Show 8 2nd Gen and 1x Echo Show 5 2nd Gen) within a space that is about 1200 sqft. If I speak at a normal indoor voice level the 5th Gen Echo Dot is nearly always the first device to respond to my requests regardless of where I am in the space. To get the other Echo devices to respond I have to speak softly and face directly towards the device I want to respond.
Based on what I’ve experienced so far, I would highly recommend the Echo Dot 5th Gen to friends and family. It’s a great little powerhouse that brings out the best of Alexa.
